Carne Restaurant Interior Design by InHouse Brand Architects
InHouse Brand Architects designed the interior for the Carne restaurant in Cape Town, South Africa. The design aimed for this dedicated meat lovers restaurant was a space that reflected “exceptional design and quality that would have longevity and style to match the food”. This proved to be a long and detailed journey of converting an old tea warehouse into a ‘rough to the touch’ Italian butcher shop eatery.
The original timber and steel columns were retained whilst contrasting clean cold materials such as white carrera marble and stainless steel detailing, thus implementing the butchers trade theme. The split level entrance with its ‘floating’ feature mild steel staircase leads to the ground floor cocktail bar in view of the showroom kitchen. In this space the white starkness distinguishes itself against the warm grains of the social area with feature butcher blocks and a retro Italian meat slicer enhancing the Milanese meat experience.
The basement is where we eat. Simple, non-fuss tables with timber and steel edge details, concealed light fittings within the glowing timber beams create the dramatic atmosphere making you ‘feel’ the light, not see it, while the Louis ghost chairs disappear in the space adding softness and transparency.
