Dear E

I thought about writing notes about living a creative life; about passing on specific bits of info from my almost–30 years in the writing trenches but it quickly bogged down into maudlin advice from an old fart. Or thats how it seemed to me. And besides, the advantage of being young is the ability to learn from your own mistakes with the time to recover and do it again properly. And hence, you can easily ignore maudlin old–fart advice.

Having said that, I fully intend to plunge headlong down the warren of advice giving.

Being young, and creative can be really frustrating. You have so much to say, but no easy way to say it nor the mature skill set that makes your words work and reflect what’s really in your brain.

‘Tower Town’ by visiondivision

When the Taiwan Tower competition in Taichung asked participants for an iconic skyscraper, visiondivision responded with a cluster of over 100 slender towers that challenges the expected experiences within and aesthetics of a 21st century tower. Tower Town, a result of examining the traditional skyscraper and questioning its spatial offerings, creates a dense urban environment with its fragmented massing.

This field of towers will create an experience that vastly differs from the single skyscraper. The 100+ skyscrapers will form a network on the ground level of narrow streets with different vertical views, and in the sky, with different observation decks for communication purposes (in addition to structural demands).

99.5% of Social Media Gurus are Clowns?

In interviews for his latest book his latest book, “The Thank You Economy”, Gary Vaynerchuk was quoted as saying that 99.5% of the people that walk around and say they are a social media expert or guru are clowns. Ive thinking about that in context of some interesting data released this past week. Seems the bloom is off the rose at Facebook and both US and Canadian users have decreased as a general trend over the past month. I take perverse pride in knowing Canadians lead the way here just as we led it the rate of adoption per capita, now we lead the withdrawal in real numbers.

But I digress.
